Reports to: Manager, Antenna Engineering

Location: Aurora, Ontario

Summary:

Sinclair Technologies, a division of Norsat International Inc. is looking for a highly motivated and energetic Antenna Design Engineer to join our Sinclair Division in Aurora, Ontario.  Preference will be given to candidates who have good communication skills, are team players, are able to focus on details and have a natural drive to details and accuracy.

As an Antenna Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of advanced array antennas for use primarily with base stations and vehicles in public safety, law enforcement and mobile communications systems. You will responsible for the design, modeling & analysis, fabrication, test and measurement of innovative array antennas. In addition to short term deployment driven tasks, you will have the opportunity to develop novel concepts and new designs that satisfy the long-term antenna needs of the company. You will work closely and communicate effectively with other members of the development team, including other antenna and mechanical engineers. You will demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, be self-motivated and a good team player, as well as, be able to work with minimum supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform computer-aided design and analysis of antennas
  • Provide antenna specifications, requirements and simulations
  • Provide support to senior antenna design engineers
  • Carry out microwave component and antenna prototype development and testing, both in the lab and in the field
  • Perform near and far-field testing of antennas in state-of-the-art facilities
  • Design antennas for novel and challenging applications in low band, VHF, UHF and 5G, mobile wireless communication systems

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience designing, simulating, analyzing and testing antennas
  • Experience designing passive microwave components used in beam-forming networks including couplers, hybrids, phase-shifters, transitions, etc.
  • Knowledge or experience in the design of phased arrays and radiating antenna elements (PCB antenna, wideband or multi-band elements, etc.)
  • Strong ability to use antenna EM modeling tools such as HFSS and CST.
  • Knowledge of latest technologies in antenna array design (5G MIMO, metamaterials, reconfigurable structures and materials, etc.) would be an asset
  • Hands-on experience in testing microwave components and/or antennas (VNA, antenna pattern measurement systems, etc.) would be an asset
  • Knowledge of and exposure to high-volume manufacturing would be an asset
  • Knowledge in Passive Intermodulation (PIM) and PIP is a significant asset
  • Eng / MSEE or equivalent, PhD would be an asset

Department: Manufacture Engineering

Reports to: Department Manager

Position Type: Permanent, Full Time

Location: Aurora, ON

Summary:

As a Manufacturing Engineer, your responsibilities include providing support to shop floor associated with safety, manufacturing process, quality methods, tooling, equipment, layout, space and capacity. Aggressively initiate new processes and methods that will improve safety, reduce product cost and/or improve product quality.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop processes, procedures, and workflows based on Sinclair’s manufacturing processes and workflows to improve efficiency, quality, safety and reduce costs, including but not limited to time studies, process review and root cause analysis and prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends based on labor, nonconformity and production data;
  • Lead the transition of new products from engineering development into pilot run and mass production;
  • Supervise process integration in NPI project launches and sustaining existing products, ensure seamless development and maintenance of core documentation (Costing, MFG-BOM, Work Instructions, Cycle Time, Process Failure modes and Effects Analysis, tooling/fixture/jig designing);
  • Review and update manufacturing methods, labor utilization standards and cost analysis systems to help promote efficient staff and facility utilization as a result of the change;
  • Conduct time study analysis on manufacturing processes in order to obtain the pertinent data to drive prioritized improvements;
  • Lead Process Failure modes and Effects Analysis and manufacturability analysis, recommend product changes/improvements to Design/Product Engineers, determine effectivity of changes and assure compliance to such. Observe/monitor new technologies, competitors, industry trends and report to management;
  • Assure that all quality requirements, engineering and testing standards are included in all work and/or working instructions, testing procedures and other documentations. Suggest improvements in product design to simplify manufacturing;
  • Evaluate engineering and manufacturing tolerances for design standardization and manufacturability;
  • Working closely with Engineering, Quality and Production to investigate root cause and come up with corrective actions and preventive actions for quality issues. Implement processes to drive site performance in safety, quality, and productivity to best in class driving out the “Cost of Poor Quality” continuously;
  • Refine and enhance processes by applying continuous improvement related to the manufacturability of products and processes.  Apply industrial engineering (work measurements, line balancing, human factors and plant layouts, etc.) and lean manufacturing techniques (problem solving tools [fishbone, 5-Why, 8-D], poke yoke, continuous and single piece flow, Kaizens, etc.) to assure optimization of floor space, equipment (assets), safety and resources, as related to the efficient production of quality products;
  • Coordinate and implement engineering changes;
  • Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and takes immediate corrective action as required;
  • Have knowledge and understanding of document control, design transfer, verification, validation, acceptance activity, to ensure that product, equipment, tools, processes, software, training and documentation meet requirements;
  • Be aware of and comply with the Quality Management System;
  • Support necessary personnel for internal, customer and third-party quality system audits;
  • Occasional business travel;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Manufacturing/Industrial/Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent
  • 3-5 years Manufacturing/Industrial/Mechanical Engineering experience in a low volume, high-mix manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Good experience of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA) is an asset
  • Experience in lean manufacturing—Six Sigma or other related certifications or coursework a plus
  • Good knowledge of ERP software, BOM structures, routings, Engineering Change process and Non-conforming process
  • Strong computer skills (including AutoCAD/Solid Works – latest version, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Visio)

Department: Materials and Planning
Reports to: Department Manager

Position Type: 6 – 12 month contract with potential of becoming full time
Location: Aurora, ON

Summary:

You will be responsible for receiving and processing incoming stock and materials, picking and filling orders from stock to manufacturing teams as requested, inventory and other items using the corporate ERP system. Incoming product is to be properly identified and physically stored in proper locations. Manage the physical inventory while keeping the stockroom well organized and clean. Work together with the team and also be the backup during vacation times.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist shipping and receiving unloading trucks and checking in merchandise
  • Open bales, crates and other containers
  • Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, locations or in bins according to organizational standards
  • Enter receiving and incoming goods into the company ERP system.
  • Follow Sinclair ISO procedures including FIFO stock rotation.
  • Labeling products and items to be received.
  • Maintains inventory controls by collecting stock location orders, printing request, recording amounts of materials or items received or distributed through a computer. May also assist in counting of physical inventory
  • Perform assigned tasks as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal, written and spoken communication skills
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic numerical ability (counting, addition, multiplication).
  • Mechanically inclined: able to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment.
  • Ability to work in a multi-tasked environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Dependable and reliable.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to use pump truck
  • Minimum grade 12 education
  • Valid forklift driver’s license is a plus
